5 things to do in the winter in Ithaca, NY

The wintertime can be an exceptionally beautiful time of year in Ithaca and the holidays always get people in the mood to get together and partake in some fun winter activities.  The freshly fallen snow and snow-covered trees replace the brightly colored leaves, but it doesn’t make the area any less beautiful. At East Pointe Apartments in Ithaca NY, we are in a prime location in Ithaca for all your winter activities and we wanted to share with you a few popular ideas for things to do this winter season.

  1. Take a frozen hike

The Ithaca area is known for its proximity to beautiful waterfalls and gorges. It can be a popular sport in the summer, but there is a magical feel that is created around the wintertime when it is covered in white sparkling snow and ice. It is an extremely impressive sight to see a waterfall that has frozen over for the winter, maybe even more so than in the warmer months when the waterfall is flowing. You can take a hike along the plowed Gorge Trail at Taughannock Falls State Park and take a look at the tallest waterfall in the Finger Lakes region in a stationary state. Our East Pointe apartments in Ithaca NY put you in the perfect location to see this beautiful phenomenon.

  2. Go ice skating/sledding

In Ithaca, you have the option to ice skate inside or outside. There are various safe places to ice skate outside if outdoor recreation is for you, but there are just as many indoor places for all ages. Cass Park or The Ring are two great places for indoor ice skating. Rice Hill is the spot for outdoor pond skating as well as sledding. This is the perfect activity to enjoy the beautiful outdoors and then go back to East Pointe apartments in Ithaca NY to warm yourself back up after a chilly outdoor winter activity.
